Foundation History

Bob Galley was an active Wyoming REALTOR® who served as president of the Wyoming Association of REALTORS® in 1977. He also served in 1979 as the NAR Region XI Vice President. Mr. Galley was instrumental in beginning the GRI Program in Wyoming. Upon hearing that Mr. Galley had passed away, a GRI instructor donated his teaching fees back to the GRI program as an honorarium. Using this donation as seed money, the leadership at the time decided to establish a foundation in Bob Galley’s name dedicated to financially helping REALTORS® obtain their GRI designation.

The Foundation Today

The Foundation went dormant until it was turned over to the Wyoming Association of REALTORS® a few years ago. When the Foundation was revived, it was decided to fund scholarships for any NAR recognized designation class, rather than focusing only on the GRI. The Foundation is made up of 11 trustees from the Wyoming Association of REALTORS®: the five state District Vice Presidents, the state Professional Development chair and co-chair, the state VP/Treasurer, the presidents of the CRS and RLI chapters, and an at-large member. The WAR Association Executive acts as an ex officio member. The Trustees usually meet four times a year and are charged with overseeing the financial assets of the Foundation, raising Foundation and education awareness and distributing scholarships. The primary purpose of the Foundation is to provide educational assistance to REALTORS® in the state of Wyoming by awarding scholarships for NAR recognized designation classes. One scholarship will be awarded to a recipient from each local board that submits a member’s application. The amount of the scholarship award is determined by the available funds as of September 1st of each year and the number of applications received. Scholarship recipients will be announced at the Awards Luncheon during the Annual State Convention. Recipients may use the funds to cover the tuition and associated expenses of any NAR recognized designation class/training, including on-line training. Classes should be taken within the period from the State Convention through the end of the following year. Scholarship money will be distributed to recipients upon completion of the class. Recipients will send a copy of their certificate of completion to the WAR office and WAR will in turn send a check for the amount awarded.
